Anthropic’s IPO prospectus discloses heavy losses and existential risk warnings

Anthropic’s confidential IPO prospectus, reported by Reuters, details steep losses alongside a sweeping vision for artificial intelligence^1,2. The company wants stock market investors to value it at more than $2 trillion⁶. Last year the company behind Claude AI lost $42 billion^6,7,15.

The filing details very large compute commitments. Anthropic disclosed a commitment to Elon Musk’s SpaceX worth up to $84.5 billion^13,14. A related compute deal was reported at $45 billion, with Musk warning that SpaceX could pull back from it and calling the arrangement short-term¹³. The agreements can mostly be cancelled with 90 days’ notice¹⁴.

Anthropic’s revenue for 2025 forms part of the roadmap to go public that chief executive Dario Amodei has set out¹⁰.
